In transition...

I am actually going to try to keep up this blog, it may be the easiest way too keep people informed (if they want to be) on our where-abouts and what's going on!

Ben is currently in Minneapolis finishing up repairs on our condo and finishing his last week in the office. Saturday, December 1st two lovely people will be moving into our Uptown condo and renting from us!

I have been tirelessly searching online for either a sublet or a month to month apartment just to get ourselves out to Portland. It's pretty difficult making a decision online about an apartment so we want to get into something short-term while we apartment search and feel out the city.

While in Mandan (Bismarck), I have been finding extra time to spend with family. Having lunch with my aunts, taking my small cousins to the movie, having coffee with my grandma... things like that. I really can't believe it has been a year since I have been home. I guess that month in Europe really took out a big portion of 2007!

I am really missing biking though. It's tough in Bismarck, especially this week. It has been SO windy and negative degree wind chills. I did go for a long ride on Sunday and it made me realize how much smaller it is here to get across the city... even with 40 mph wind gusts! Ha!

As soon as Ben joins me in good 'ol NoDak we will make a more definite plan. I don't want to get too comfortable before packing up again!

Jude is doing fine, except for being scared to death of my dad... he's really not an animal guy. She has found comfort being able to explore the huge house!!!

Peace and joy... more soon!

I miss...

the good old days of TGIF... what happened to the good sitcoms?

I guess you can say I don't own a TV because it's gone down hill since Michelle (Mary Kate and Ashley Olson) became of age. Ha.

Bicyclists are entitled to a piece of the road too...

"Oil is a non-renewable resource that harms our environment and is a huge source of conflict among nations. Vehicles that run on oil, such as every SUV, car, truck and minivan in Toronto are only inflaming this growing problem and polluting the very air we breathe. In contrast, bicycles use absolutely no gas to run, do not in any way harm the air and (shockingly!) actually benefit those who ride them. At a minimum, cyclists should be treated with equal respect to motorists and so the next time you see someone toiling away on their bike to get from A to B, show a little sympathy and appreciate the sacrifice we cyclists are making."

I love when signs tell the truth...

"Geez... my kitchen sink drain is clogged, well draining slowly"

(Went to Walgreens to buy Drano)

(Used Drano, doesn't work)

(Feel guilty for using Drano, bioHAZARD)

(Went to Walgreens to buy vinegar, no vinegar)

(Calls Plumber)

"Can you come over, my kitchen sink isn't draining"

(Plumber comes, uses a long scrub brush thing, and leaves all in 10 minutes, says he's giving me a break and charges $98)

"I think I am in the wrong profession" I say to myself all last night.

$98 is a full day of work for me. All to take a scrub brush down my pipe.

Peace. no LOVE for you.

tragic. really.

The thought that a bridge could just fall down has been a fear of mine since I was a wee little one. I grew up in the great "twin cities" of North Dakota, aka Bismarck-Mandan. The river that runs through the cities is the Missouri, which is also littered in bridges.

As a youngster I played various games with my two younger brothers, like holding your breath over bridges, but could never get over the constant fear of drowning. To this day it (an being too average) are my biggest fears.

At any given time I know how to get my seat belt off and open the door. I am and was always prepared to jump out of the car in case it plunged into the river or the bridge collapsed.

But, I never ACTUALLY thought I would see something like I saw yesterday.

My heart aches for the lives that have been changed by this event.

And all the more, gives me one more valid reason to be car free. (I am not saying I do not ride in cars, rent them, or use public transit). But, the fact of the matter, if I did have a car to just hop into, "it could have been me".

Yesterday after work, I rode the west river parkway, which is closed to vehicles. It looks to me that the Stone Arch Bridge is closed to pedestrian traffic. The closest I could get was Gold Medal Park, where it was littered in people pointing, and a somber silence and whispers of people trying to come to grips with what they were seeing above the tree lines.

Traffic was another hug issue. I rode over to the Washington Ave overpass that crosses 35W. There wasn't much to see other than lines of cars, and emergency vehicles.

Here are some pictures of my view.

Gold Medal Park was crazy with people getting a view. Really the only highest point other than Endless Bridge of the Guthrie is the hill.

West River Parkway was closed to vehicles, but I got by on my bike, until the baracade right after Gold Metal Park.

I watched as people went up and down the hill, somber and quiet.

Everyone just looking to see what they could over the tree lines.
This was the view from the top of the hill.

breakfast on my mind

Milk and cereal. It's the only thing I can think about today. Gotta get Ben some milk and cereal... kinda reminds me of the G. Love song "Milk and Cereal" definitly one of my favorites.

Can you become obese from Milk and Cereal? (I had to somehow add this interesting chart in my post today, I don't like making separate posts)
What kind of food do they have in the south that makes that red streek up the crack of the US?

a peep into other blogs

So I haven't posted in a while... sue me.

I got hit by a car on my bike during my morning commute on July 12th. It's been almost two weeks and other than a fat knee and some bad ass bruises, I am fine.

Broken bike... fixed.
Missed work, medical bills, and bike repairs are being paid by her insurance... nice.
Being a little more timid and wearing my helmet at all times... after-effects.

can't complain.. I am alive and walking I guess.

Anyways, here are some interesting things...
